What stopped me was a different column. The most important column in swimming analysis — splits, reaction time, underwater dolphin kicks, turns — is entirely blank. Recruiting reports do not carry it, because they sell news, not analysis.

I went looking for a commitment and found an empty column.

American swimming produces athletes along two channels, clubs and high schools, which merge into the NCAA system. For Davis both channels are named: Marlins of Raleigh at club level, Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, North Carolina, at school level. A ranking puts one swimmer into an individual final. A hidden relay split keeps a team alive week after week.

Finally, under NIL and the transfer portal, a verbal commitment is a pre-contract and nothing more. A coaching change at Texas A&M before 2028, a scholarship shift, or another two seconds off his times could rewrite this entirely. What I have written is a picture seen through a 2026 window.
